Medical Detoxification
Detox is the essential first step in recovery. At Serenity Healing, our medical detoxification program provides safe, comfortable withdrawal management under the constant supervision of our clinical team in Downey, California.
What Is Medical Detox?
Medical detoxification is the process of safely clearing addictive substances from your body while managing withdrawal symptoms. Unlike quitting cold turkey, our medically supervised approach uses evidence-based protocols and, when appropriate, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to reduce discomfort, prevent dangerous complications, and set the stage for ongoing treatment.
Our detox program typically lasts 3 to 7 days, depending on the substance, severity of dependence, and your individual health needs. Throughout the process, you will receive 24/7 medical monitoring, nutritional support, and compassionate care from our licensed staff.
What We Monitor
- Vital signs and physical health indicators
- Withdrawal symptom severity and progression
- Mental and emotional state
- Medication response and dosage adjustments
- Hydration and nutritional intake

Partial Hospitalization

- Hours: 9-20 hours/week

Standard Outpatient

- Hours: 2-4 hours/week
- Individual counseling
- Peer support groups
- Aftercare coordination
Step-Down Care Model
Recovery is not a single event but a graduated process. Our step-down model ensures you are never abruptly discharged from treatment. Instead, you transition smoothly through decreasing levels of intensity as your confidence and coping skills grow.
Many clients begin with residential or PHP and step down to IOP, then standard outpatient, and finally aftercare. At each transition, your treatment team reassesses your progress and adjusts your plan to match your current needs.
Flexibility That Supports Recovery
- Morning and evening session options for IOP
- Telehealth availability for select sessions
- Work and school-compatible scheduling
- Coordination with sober living environments
- Ongoing case management and support
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Nearly half of all individuals with a substance use disorder also struggle with a co-occurring mental health condition. At Serenity Healing, we treat both simultaneously through an integrated, evidence-based approach, because lasting recovery requires addressing the whole person.
What Is Dual Diagnosis?
Dual diagnosis (also called co-occurring disorders) refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition at the same time. These conditions frequently interact, with one worsening the other. Treating addiction alone without addressing underlying mental health issues often leads to relapse.
Our clinical team includes licensed therapists, psychiatrists, and addiction specialists who work together to create a unified treatment plan that addresses both conditions with equal attention and clinical rigor.
Mental Health Conditions We Treat
Our dual diagnosis program provides specialized care for individuals experiencing addiction alongside:
Depression
Major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and substance-induced depression. We address the chemical, emotional, and behavioral dimensions of depression through therapy and, when appropriate, psychiatric medication.
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and specific phobias. Our CBT and DBT approaches are particularly effective for breaking the cycle of anxiety-driven substance use.
PTSD
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder stemming from trauma, abuse, military service, or other life events. We incorporate trauma-informed care throughout every level of treatment.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar I and Bipolar II disorders with co-occurring substance use. Our psychiatric team provides careful medication management alongside intensive therapeutic programming.
Our Integrated Approach
Unlike programs that treat addiction and mental health separately, our integrated model ensures that every clinician on your team understands and addresses both conditions. This means:
Comprehensive Assessment
Thorough diagnostic evaluation for both substance use disorders and mental health conditions during intake, using validated clinical instruments.
Unified Treatment Planning
One treatment plan, one team. Your therapist, psychiatrist, and case manager collaborate to ensure every aspect of your care is coordinated and consistent.
Evidence-Based Therapies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, trauma-informed modalities, and psychiatric medication management all working in concert.
Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment
Regular reassessments ensure your treatment plan evolves as you progress, with adjustments to therapy focus and medication as your needs change.
